Hello loves! Today I will be reviewing Truvia Calorie-Free Sweetener. This sweetener is vegan, kosher and gluten-free and comes from the sweetest part of the stevia leaf. Now to be honest, I am not a huge fan of artificial sweeteners - in fact, I actively avoid them - but I recieved a sample of this a little while ago and it has been in my cupboard just waiting for me to take a chance on it. So, today's the day I'm doing it! Obviously, I went into this with rather low expectations as I've never found a sweetener that didn't leave me with a horrible aftertaste - but when I used this in place of sugar in my morning tea I was pleasently surprised! I used half a packet which is relative to the amount of sugar I would normally have in my tea, and found almost no difference between the two. It tasted just like it does every other morning! I decided to pour the rest of the packet in (for science!) and was once again very happy with the outcome. Although I would not ever put that much sugar in my tea (not judging if you do though #nohate), I was once again satisfied with the outcome. My tea tasted effectively sweeter, without too much of a Stevia aftertaste. I definitely recommend this to anyone looking to cut back on their sugar intake but isn't a fan of the traditional Splenda-type sweetener. If you would like to try this out for yourself, simply fill out the form on Truvia's website by clicking here! Thank you so much for reading and have an amazing day!
Glutino is a gluten-free brand that also happens to carry several vegan product options. Here's a quick post containing the 9 vegan products that are currently available. Shop online by clicking here.
Hey guys, posting has been pretty hard lately. I've taken today off and gone to my moms house to do some work on my blog. Hopefully I'll be able to get back into the habit of posting every week! Today I will be reviewing 2 different pizzas from Daiya. These pizzas are free from gluten, dairy, soy, egg, peanut, fish and meat and come in 4 other types - Supreme, Spinach & Mushroom, Margherita, Mushroom & Roasted Garlic. The 2 I will be reviewing are Cheeze Lover's and Fire-Roasted Vegetable.
Cheeze Lover's Pizza
This pizza is made up of crispy gluten-free crust, zesty tomato sauce and dairy-free Mozzarella and Cheddar shreds. I have seen a lot of negative reviews about this pizza but I have to say, I really enjoyed it! The cheese for the most part tastes and stretches like dairy cheese, the texture could be improved upon but it certainly wasn't bad! The highlights of this pizza were definitely it's flavour and crispiness. Overall I am giving this 3/5 stars because I don't believe there was quite enough cheese in the cheese/sauce ratio.
Fire-Roasted Vegetable Pizza
The same crispy gluten-free crust is topped with tomato sauce, red onion, bell peppers, roasted garlic, tomato, basil and dairy-free Mozzarella style shreds. This is definitely my favourite of the two, this pizza is fully loaded with vegetables and flavour and just the right amount of cheesy goodness. Perfectly crispy, there really isn't much I would change about it. 4/5 stars.
Overall, I would definitely recommend these pizzas to anyone looking for an easy dinner. They are a bit on the expensive side for a frozen pizza (I believe I paid $7.79 sale price) but are definitely worth it as a dairy-free option! Thanks for reading, leave in the comments below your favourite Daiya pizza or vegan pizza in general.
I recently received a sample of this superfood powder from Enerex and Social Nature for the purpose of review and wanted to share my thoughts on it with you today! This superfood powder is made with raw juiced greens and contains many beneficial probiotics and antioxidants. It is said to increase your energy and endurance, reduces inflammation & improve digestion and brain function. Now, I have been looking for a superfood powder for quite sometime now. Every one I have tried so far has either been way too bitter or sickly sweet. I really enjoyed this one because of it's clean, refreshing, barely-there flavour. You can mix it into your smoothies or any other juice but I find it to be quite pleasant when on its own with some cold water. As for the benefits, I have actually been really sick the past few days and found that this worked really well with combating my symptoms and getting back my energy! I am so excited to be able to share this review with you guys, I definitely recommend you try this product, especially if you're in the same place as I am with superfood powders. Overall I give this powder 4.5/5 stars!
5 Reasons I Stopped Consuming Dairy Products
I want to start off by saying that before I went vegan, I LOVED dairy. Some of my favourite things included; sitting down with a tub of ice cream and a spoon and binge watching Netflix for a couple of hours; pouring milk on to said ice cream so it created a nice layer of milky ice; grating a block of cheese into a bowl and eating it as a snack; buying an extra large cheese pizza and a Venti Java Chip Frappuccino from Starbucks for dinner; my favourite meal - East Side Mario's Cheese Cappelletti. As you can see my choices were not the greatest but boy, did I suffer from them. This leads me to reason #1.
I could talk for days about why milk is horrible, but if you're here odds are you already know and are looking for some alternatives. In that case, my apologies, here are some types of dairy-free milks!
Soy Milk is healthy, cheap and easy to find - making it one of the most popular non-dairy milks. Derived from edamame, it is also the most protein rich of all plant milks. It has less fat than dairy milk, no cholesterol and is high in fortified calcium, vitamin D and vitamin B12. Soy milk is a great choice for someone who is new to veganism as it is so versatile! When choosing which soy milk to buy be sure to get one that is free of GMO. If you are someone who eats a lot of soy foods, I would recommend leaving this from your diet.
Best Uses: baking, cooking and drinking.
Almond, Cashew and Hazelnut Milks are sweet, nutty and lower in calories than soy milk. They are creamy in texture and very easy to make at home. Almond milk is high in vitamins A, D and E as well as antioxidants and healthy omega 6 fats. Hazelnut milk is high in vitamins B12, D and E and promotes healthy hair and skin.
Best Uses: baking, cooking, drinking, in hot drinks, in smoothies, on cereal, and in desserts. Very versatile!
Coconut Milk comes in two varieties - canned and boxed. Canned coconut milk is very high in calories and fat. It is ideal for cooking and baking as a condensed milk-type substitute but I would not recommend it for daily use. Boxed coconut milk
Best Uses: Canned - thick smoothies, in place of coffee creamer, curries, and ice creams. Boxed - drinking, on cereal, in hot drinks and smoothies.
Rice Milk is sweet with a thin, watery consistency. It has little nutritional value, protein and fat so is not ideal for everyday use. It is often cheaper than other non-dairy milks and is personally one of my favourite things to drink.
Best Uses: drinking, in smoothies, on cereal and in dessert recipes.
Hemp Milk is derived from the seeds of the hemp plant and probably the most nutritious of non-dairy milks. It contains 10 essential amino acids, omega fats, calcium and protein. It is known for it's earthy flavour and thick, creamy texture.
Best Uses: drinking, in hot drinks, in pancakes, in smoothies and on cereal.
Oat Milk is thick and grainy, low in fat and high in protein, calcium, fiber, iron, and vitamins A and E. It is immune system friendly but should be avoided by those who are Gluten Free/Gluten Intolerant.
Best Uses: drinking, cooking and for making hearty cookies.
Flax Milk is low in calories and high in omega 3 fatty acids, vitamins A, B12 and D. It is creamy, delicious and contains as much calcium as dairy milk.
Best Uses: drinking, in smoothies.
Hey fellow subscription box junkies, today I thought I would do a review of my (rather late) July Urthbox! In this box I received 7 different full sized snacks for sampling; Amazing Grass Watermelon Energy Green Superfood, Natures Bakery Double Chocolate Brownie, Watusee Foods Organic Rosemary Chickpeatos, Unique Pretzel Bakery Pretzel Shells, Manitoba Harvest Apple Cinnamon Hemp Heart Bar, Popcorners Kettle Chips, Inner J Maple Crunchy Snack Bar.
Amazing Grass Watermelon Energy Green Superfood
Amazing Grass Green Superfood powders come in 14 flavours, are sweetened with spirulina and contain a daily dose of vitamins and minerals, the flavour I am reviewing today is Watermelon Energy.
The first thing I did when I opened this month's UrthBox was reach for this cute little packet to read the ingredients list. I couldn't wait to try it after discovering that Matcha was one of the key ingredients! Unfortunately, my excitement ended the moment I poured the powder into a cup. The dark green powder had a sickly sweet odour that only got worse upon combining it with water. I used the recommended 8oz of liquid but could not get down more than a few sips. It tasted like I was drinking one of those Fruit To Go snacks. I give this product 2/5 stars because I hold out hope that it is better when mixed with other beverages.
Natures Bakery Double Chocolate Brownie
The second item I receiver in my box was this packet of Natures Bakery Brownies. The single packet contained two 90 calorie brownies. They had a rather pleasing texture and a very strong date flavour. They are a healthy (and cruelty free!) alternative to Bear Paw brownies. Overall I give this product 3.5/5 stars. I would recommend these to any parent raising a vegan child, they make perfect lunchbox snacks!
Watusee Foods Rosemary Chickpeatos
The third item I received were these "Chickpeatos" from Watusee Foods. Mine came in the flavour Rosemary but they are also sold in Chickpea Breadcrumbs, Cinnamon Toast, Spicy Cayenne and Tomato Basil. Right away upon opening these I was overwhelmed with a strong Rosemary scent, but was disappointed to find that the snack itself carried little flavour. They have the same type of consistency as pretzels but I found that they were way too dry and left me with a severe case of cottonmouth. You have been warned! 3/5 stars.
Unique Pretzel Bakery Pretzel Shells
Speaking of pretzels, the third item I received were these Unique Pretzel Bakery Pretzel Shells. They are just like regular pretzels but hollow on the inside. They are salty, simple and delicious. 5/5 stars.
Manitoba Harvest Apple Cinnamon Hemp Heart Bar
This bar was a lot chewier than I expected. I was expecting a bit more of a grainy crunch. There isn't an overwhelming apple cinnamon flavour or much going on at all to be honest. I suppose these would also be a good lunchbox snack, as each bar is full of protein and omegas, but I just did not enjoy it that much. 2/5 stars.
Popcorners Kettle Popped Corn Chips
From the looks of these chips I did not think I was going to enjoy them but man, was I wrong! These popped corn chips were sweet rather than salty and left a corny aftertaste and I ate them all in a matter of minutes. 5/5 stars!
Inner J Maple Crunchy Snack Bar
The last item in my July UrthBox was this Maple snack bar. I'm not usually all that big on maple flavoured foods but I really enjoyed this one! It was sweet, crunchy and completely delicious. It contained hemp seeds, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, chia seeds, pea protein crisps, and brown rice, as well as a variety of natural proteins and spices. I give this bar 4/5 stars.
That's it for my July UrthBox review, overall this box gets a 3/5! Save $10 on your August UrthBox purchase by clicking here!
*** Also, I am so sorry I didn't get the change to post on Saturday, I was away at my trailer in the land of limited wifi! Hope you all had a great long weekend Xx ***
So Delicious is one of my favorite brands! They make a variety of dairy-free beverages, creamers, desserts and yogurts. Today I am reviewing their Chocolate Velvet Soy Frozen Dessert. Click here to view their other products.
Aside from being 100% vegan, this "ice cream" is Non-GMO, Gluten Free, Kosher, Organic and 100% delicious. It has the same texture and consistency as dairy ice cream, so no worries there! I would describe the flavor of this ice cream to be like a chocolate pudding cup. My brother says it tastes like chocolate cake and my mom says it tastes like a chocolate Popsicle, so there is really no doubting it's chocolate taste! It does have a fairly strong soy flavor as well, so if that's not for you I would recommend checking out their coconut or cashew desserts! Overall, I rate this dessert 4/5! I am absolutely in love with it's sweet flavor but it is a bit on the expensive side, being over $8 for a small tub. I will definitely be repurchasing, but probably only once in a while.
One serving of Vega Chocolate Protein & Greens contains 20 g of protein, 2 servings of greens and only 120 calories. It is gluten free, certified vegan and non-GMO. The simplest way to use this powder is to shake it with one cup of water or non dairy milk, but you can also use it in smoothies, nice cream and even baking!
I do not use this protein powder every day because I normally have fresh fruits and greens and goodies to put into my smoothies, but this is good for days when I don't have a lot of time or just am not stocked up on everything I need. The one thing about this product that may turn some people off of it is that it is made with stevia leaf extract, so it does carry that distinct stevia aftertaste. All in all I give this powder 3.5/5 stars and I am looking forward to trying the Vanilla Protein & Greens powder next time.
Example Recipe: For my breakfast this morning I made this Mexican Chocolate Smoothie I found on the Vega website by blending together; 1 serving Vega Protein & Greens Chocolate Powder, 1 tsp vanilla extract, 1/8 tsp nutmeg, 1/8 tsp cayenne, 1/8 tsp cinnamon, 1 tbsp cocoa powder, 1 cup ice and 1 1/2 cup non-dairy milk (I used soy). The website also called for 1/4 bar of Vega Maca Chocolate and 1/2 an avocado as well, but I made mine without and it tasted just as good!
